Ywangan Lot A is a combination of daily lots grown by Danu smallholder farmers around the Ywangan township in Southern Shan state, Myanmar.
For many years, Ywangan was a significant opium-producing region. However, efforts have been made over the past ten years to replace poppies with speciality coffee, providing farmers with a more reliable source of income. The main variety grown in the region is red catuai, often produced alongside crops such as avocado, jackfruit and macadamia trees, which double as shade protection for the coffee.
This is a wonderful example of the well-processed, clean coffees that this region of Myanmar is able to produce. In the cup, we find fresh apple flavours balanced by a deep brown sugar finish. We have roasted Ywangan Lot A for espresso and we think it tastes just as delicious with or without milk.
